NASA Exercise: Ranking Survival Objects for the Moon

Survival Exercise

Place the number 1 by the most important item and continue numbering to 15 to indicate the least important item. Beside each item, write your reasons for giving the item its ranking and explain how you plan to use the item to help you survive.

  • Life raft (自充气救生艇)

    a self-inflatable floatation device

  • Two 45.5-kilogram (100-pound) tanks of oxygen

    pressurized tanks of oxygen

  • Space blanket (防辐射毯)

a thin sheet of plastic material that is coated with a metallic reflecting layer

  • Lights with solar-powered rechargeable batteries

portable lights powered by solar batteries

  • Signal mirror (反光镜)

    a handheld mirror

  • 38 liters (10 gallons) of water (38升水)

    a container of water

  • First aid kit (急救箱)

a basic first aid kit with pain medication and medicine for infection

  • Food concentrate (压缩食品)

dehydrated food to which water is added

  • Magnetic compass (指南针)

a tool that uses a magnetic field to determine direction

  • Solar-powered radio receiver-transmitter (太阳能无线电收发器)

a communication tool powered by the sun

  • Map of the Moon’s surface (月图)

a map showing the Moon’s terrain

  • 15 meters (about 50 feet) of nylon rope (15

    manufactured rope

  • Parachute (降落伞)

a large piece of silk cloth

  • Space suit repair kit (太空服修补剂)

materials to repair tiny holes in fabric

  • Box of matches (一盒火柴)

    wooden sticks with sulfur-treated heads

物品 step1 Your Ranking step2 Team Ranking step3 NASA’s Ranking step4 Diff between Step1 and Step3 Step5 Diff between Step2 and Step3
